Dear HOSA Advisors,
Since 2013, six Hosa students have volunteered with Global Dental Relief overseas gaining valuable first-hand knowledge and skills in the medical field. Our partnership is a unique way for your students to work in a clinical setting and travel abroad. This past summer Amber Welle of Pickens Tech volunteered in Guatemala.
GDR has two $500 scholarships for Hosa students to participate in a field dental clinic in Guatemala from July 21st-30th, 2017. Check out this video to see Hosa students Brendan and Angie Abbott talk about their experiences in Guatemala. https://vimeo.com/mcneesestillsmotion/review/139486309/6c7129f2e8
Please share the video with your students and encourage them to apply. Please don’t let the cost be a hindrance to them. Many volunteers fundraiser asking their friends and families to make a tax-deductible donation towards their trip. The holidays is a great time to ask family to contribute to a trip. Students who are interested in fundraising can contact me for a fundraising guide.
Attached is the application and the Guatemala itinerary. You will see that the application deadline is not until after the HOSA Conference in March, but we want the students to start thinking about this opportunity now. GDR will be participating in the March Conference and able to answer questions and meet with interested students before their applications are due.
Thank-you for helping us spread the word to your students. I participated in my first volunteer service trip as a junior in high school and it changed my life.
Please let me know if you have any questions. Students and parents can contact me directly via email or in the office at 303-858-8857.
Looking forward to working with you,
Katy
